I created this forum because it has been increasingly difficult to find a location on the Internet or otherwise where people can come together and engage in spirited dialogue about the life and work of Jack Kerouac. What we have instead is the result of the dumbing-down of our culture, where people respond to things they don't have to actually read. They can appear "cool" or "hip" by acknowledging the cover of a book, or "liking' an image of Kerouac, subscribing largely to myth and cultural phenomenon and not indulging in an in-depth appreciation of not only Kerouac, but any work of art.
The other option out there are those sites that largely subsist on news feeds, taking as their daily feeding the vomited spewings of news aggregates, by-and-large getting readily-available facts wrong and accepting it as factual.
It's time to lift Kerouac out of the miasma of literary phenomenon and back into a study and appreciation of his authorship, where he would have wanted his books to be.
This is an inclusive community. I want all of you to not be intimidated or discouraged by thinking that you don't know enough to contribute. There are no "experts" here to beat you into submission in order to usurp themselves to some upper echelon of all-knowing superiority. This behavior will be discouraged unconditionally.
There is something to learn from everybody, for our readings of books and other texts remain unique to our own experiences. Sharing this is why this board exists.
The other reason is to have a reliable archive of resources to turn to when the need arises.
Happy 2017 to you all!
Paul
